For urology practices

The vasectomy patient and the stone patient both asked ChatGPT for a urologist. The answer decides which practice gets the call.

A man in Spokane, 34 with two kids, has been thinking about a vasectomy for a year and finally types "no-scalpel vasectomy in Spokane, who's best" into ChatGPT. Across town, a patient just discharged from the ER with a 5 mm stone and a prescription for tamsulosin is asking Gemini which urologist can see him this week. Both are the kind of patient a urology group builds a schedule around.

TrustPractice runs 25 of those searches for your practice across ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini and reports whether you were named, which urology groups were named instead, and what the platforms are saying about each of you.

What patients actually ask AI about urologists

Urology searches are unusually procedure-led. Vasectomy is searched by name. So are kidney stones, prostate screening, BPH, and increasingly UroLift and Rezum by brand. Symptom queries (blood in urine, frequent urination, a UTI that keeps coming back) come from patients who do not yet know they need a urologist. "Female urologist" is a common request from women with incontinence or recurrent UTIs. These are drawn from the query set we run for urology practices:

  • I need a vasectomy in Spokane, WA. Who's best?
  • urologist for kidney stones in Spokane, WA
  • urologist for BPH in Spokane, WA
  • female urologist in Spokane, WA
  • urologist that accepts Medicare in Spokane, WA
  • urologist for blood in urine in Spokane, WA

Six of the 25 queries we run for urology practices, shown here for Spokane, WA. Your scan uses your city.

Why urology practices get left out of the answer

Urology groups get skipped for reasons that have nothing to do with case volume or the surgeons' reputations.

  1. Vasectomy is a line item instead of a page

Vasectomy is the most self-referred procedure in urology and one of the most searched. It usually appears on a urology site as one bullet under "men's health." Patients want to know that it is no-scalpel, done in the office under local, how long the visit takes, whether a consult is required first, and the cash price. The practice that states all of that on a /vasectomy page gets the query.

  2. Stone care and urgent access are not described

Stone patients come out of the ER with a name for follow-up and search anyway, because they want the practice that can see them fast and treat the stone rather than watch it. If the site does not say you offer ureteroscopy and lithotripsy, keep urgent stone slots, and take ER referrals, the platforms send the query to the hospital's urology department, which does say it.

  3. Medicare, female urology, and the sub-specialties are missing from directory data

"Urologist that accepts Medicare" is the most common insurance query in the field, and "female urologist" is asked constantly by women with incontinence. Both are answered from Healthgrades, Vitals, and Doximity profiles. If your female partner's profile says "urology" with no mention of incontinence, and Medicare is not marked on any of them, the group down the road that has filled those fields gets the query.

What your score measures

Your grade comes from four factors, each measured against what the three platforms actually said about urologists in your city.

Discoverability

How many of the 25 urology queries returned your practice. Groups usually appear on "urologist in [city]" and "best urologist" and drop out on vasectomy, stone, BPH, female urology, and Medicare queries.

Prominence

Whether you were named first or third. In markets with a hospital-employed urology group, it is usually listed first for cancer and stone queries and independent groups compete for the vasectomy and BPH slots.

Accuracy

Whether the platforms have your surgeons, locations, and procedures right. We see "refers out for lithotripsy" for groups that own the lithotripter, a surgeon who moved to the hospital still listed as a partner, and no mention of robotic prostatectomy for groups that do it.

Sentiment

How the AI characterizes you. Urology descriptions echo review language about how the vasectomy went, wait times for a stone follow-up, and whether the physician took the PSA conversation seriously. We show the exact phrasing so you know which reviews are shaping it.

What the action plan looks like for a urology practice

Every full report ends with a prioritized action plan. For a urology group it tends to include items like these:

🌐 Website·Web developer·~Half day

Build a standalone vasectomy page and a kidney stone page

Create /vasectomy stating no-scalpel technique, in-office under local, whether a same-day consult and procedure is offered, recovery time, and a cash price if you publish one. Create /kidney-stones stating that you take ER referrals, keep urgent stone appointments, and offer ureteroscopy, shock wave lithotripsy, and PCNL, and where each is done.

✏️ Content·Marketing person·~Half day

Name the sub-specialties and treatments on each surgeon's bio

Rewrite the /our-physicians page so each urologist's bio says in plain words what they focus on: prostate cancer and MRI fusion biopsy, BPH including UroLift and Rezum, female pelvic medicine and incontinence, men's health and ED, pediatric if applicable. Use pronouns so gender is readable, and repeat the sub-specialty terms in the Google Business Profile description.

📂 Directory·Front desk·~1 hour

Reconcile Medicare status and rosters on Healthgrades, Vitals, and Doximity

Confirm Medicare is marked accepted on every surgeon and APP profile, remove departed physicians, add new ones, and make sure the female urologist's profile lists incontinence and pelvic floor conditions. The platforms answer "accepts Medicare" and "female urologist" from these fields, and a blank field reads as a no.

Illustrative. Your report's items are generated from the specific queries you missed and the specific errors the platforms made about your practice.

Questions urologists ask us

Word of mouth now ends with an AI check. A friend gives a name, and the patient asks ChatGPT whether that practice does no-scalpel, what it costs, and who else nearby does it. If the platforms cannot find your vasectomy details, they describe a competitor's instead.

The query set includes kidney stones, BPH, prostate cancer, bladder cancer, incontinence, ED, testosterone, and vasectomy, alongside the symptom and insurance queries. The accuracy section flags any case where the platforms describe you as referring out something you do in-house, which is common for lithotripsy and robotic surgery.

Scan the group name. Individual surgeons appear in the accuracy and sentiment findings when the platforms name them. If one partner has built a vasectomy or men's health brand under their own name, run a second scan on that name.

Yes. The competitor section lists every practice and department the platforms named instead of you, with mention counts and the verbatim quotes. In most markets the hospital-employed group is on that list, and the report shows which queries it is winning.
